The Man Behind NFC
Steve Nearman, President and CEO, has been assisting clients as a financial consultant since September 1987. His entry into the business did not necessarily trigger the market crash on Black Monday just a month later. So much for timing the market…
After years with one of the nation's largest national brokerage firms and one of Virginia's most prestigious regional firms, Nearman established Nearman Financial Consulting in 1992. With his independent financial services firm, he is able to offer his clients the best unbiased advice, services and products available, rather than the suggested investments offered by his previous financial institutions.
He has made his mark in the business by providing meticulous, ethical advice, and thorough follow up, which many firms say they provide but few actually do it.
Nearman is a Series 7/63 licensed investment professional, a Series 65 licensed Registered Investment Advisor Rep and a licensed life and health insurance agent in Virginia, Maryland, DC, Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, California and other states. He also is a Certified Benefits Consultant and a licensed Mortgage Broker.
In addition, Nearman also has authored several comprehensive product reports for television commentator Louis Rukeyser's investment newsletters and personal Selling Magazine.
Nearman publishes the widely-read and entertaining monthly NFC Financial Report. It is complimentary and for the asking - 703-683-4660.
He is married to the former Melanie Hatch - the love of his life - and helps her raise her eight-year-old son Jonathan, who has a remarkable talent on the piano. He will play concerts for jumbo shrimp. He also enjoys Cub Scouts, soccer, basketball and automobile engines.
Nearman is a co-founder of the Networking Alexandria and Alexandria Business Connection (ABC) and an active former Board member of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce (www.alexchamber.com).
One of Nearman's passions outside of the financial world is helping at-risk children. He currently is the Board President of the Child & Family Network Centers, a network of preschools and family services for nearly 200 at-risk three- and four-year-olds living below the poverty level in Alexandria and Arlington (www.cfnc-online.org).
His other passion is running, competitive running. Since his father encouraged him to run as a scrawny middle-school kid, Nearman has been competing in track and in road racing.
His competitions in Masters Track have taken him around the world. This passion spills over to Nearman's journalistic hobby as the running writer and columnist for The Washington Times, and contributor to other print and online publications.
Nearman received his BA in economics/biology from the University of Rochester in 1982, and his MBA from George Washington University in 1985. His graduation was delayed slightly so he could bicycle cross-country from Washington to Los Angeles over 30 days to view the 1984 Summer Olympics.
Nearman also guides his dear friend and Paralympian Joseph Aukward, one of the world's fastest sprinters and one of the most inspiring individuals. Aukward, a B1 visually impaired athlete, competed in the Paralympics in Athens in 2004 and in the World Championships in 2003 and 2005. Nearman and Aukward can be seen running area road races together as well as working out on many of the area's running tracks."
